RAW photo culling for wildlife photographers

RAW files give wildlife photographers flexibility in exposure and colour, but they also create a demanding first-pass selection task. SelectB is an AI-assisted culling application in private beta for Windows and macOS. It helps photographers review large shoots locally and decide which frames deserve editing.

Start with a reliable ingest

Copy and back up your originals before culling. Keep capture sequences together, and confirm that your camera model and RAW variant work with your beta build before relying on a new workflow.

Review bursts as sequences

For birds in flight, action and wildlife behaviour, compare adjacent frames at useful magnification. Check subject visibility, pose, eye detail and motion rather than judging only by a thumbnail.

Keep the final decision yours

Treat automated selections as suggestions. Review close calls manually, especially when foliage, unusual species, low light or intentional motion blur is involved.

Move the shortlist to Lightroom

Export the selection using the available XMP or folder workflow, verify a small sample in Lightroom, and retain the original RAW files and backups.
